Online Safety

At Huby CE Primary School your child’s safety is our main priority. In this rapidly changing world many of our children have access to many different devices which enable them to connect to the internet with the touch of a finger. Whilst it is important that we do not obstruct children from accessing the internet, it is equally important that we teach them how to use the internet safely and appropriately. It is our aim that staff at school and parents work in partnership to support children in accessing and navigating the online world safely.

Some of the issues that can arise are children:

  • accessing material that is inappropriate
  • being cyber-bullied by others on the internet through a wide range of sites and applications
  • accessing social networking sites and connecting with individuals that they do not know (children under the age of 13 should not have their own personal Facebook account)
  • playing adult rated games
  • sharing personal information on the internet with people they do not know

Internet Safety Day

Children learnt about what personal information is and which information we can and can’t share online. They enjoyed the interactive display where each class pinned their ideas up on how to stay safe on the internet.

Talk PANTS with Pantosaurus and his PANTS song #TalkPANTS

Meet Pantosaurus - our pant-wearing Dino! He wants every child to stay safe and strong, just like him, and he's on a mission to share an important message. We're currently trying to create a brand new PANTS storybook so we can reach more children.

Thinkuknow – 5-7

If you are 5, 6 or 7, I bet you probably like to use the computer for fun.

We’ve made this website to help you go on the internet in a safe way and know who to talk to if you are worried.

Are you worried about online sexual abuse or the way someone has been communicating with you online? Make a report to one of CEOP’s Child Protection Advisors

The Band Runner game

Featuring characters and safety messages from the Thinkuknow Play Like Share filmsBand Runner is a fun game that puts children’s knowledge about online safety to the test by asking them to help characters make safe choices.

Players can chose to play the game as characters Ellie or Sam who use their guitars to eliminate all obstacles in their path as they run through school in order to make it to their next gig. If players miss a jump or take a tumble they then need to help Alfie solve an online safety dilemma to be able to continue play.  As players pass to the next level the running gets faster!

The Thinkuknow website for 8-10 year olds

The Band Runner game is hosted within an informative which provides clear and practical safety advice for 8-10 year olds under the following headings:

  • Play – Playing games online
  • Like – Being kind to others online
  • Share – Sharing videos and photos online
  • Chat – Talking to others online
  • Lock – Keeping information private
  • Explore – Exploring the internet

The website also has a ‘Worried about something’ section offering advice and support to children who are feeling worried, scared or upset about something which has happened online.
