Shining Together Through Courage, Connection and Curiosity

Our Christian vision is at the heart of life at Huby Church of England Primary School.

We believe every child is unique and has their own light to share. We want every child to flourish in a caring, inclusive and ambitious school, developing a love of learning and the confidence to make a positive difference in the world.

Our three core values guide everything we do:

Curiosity – exploring our world, asking big questions and discovering what matters to us.

Connection – building relationships, caring for others and recognising our place within our community and wider world.

Courage – having the confidence to try, persevere, learn from mistakes and stand up for what is right.

 

Spiritual Development

We see spirituality as an ongoing journey of discovering who we are, how we relate to others, what we find beautiful and how we connect with what is beyond ourselves.

We use Mirrors, Doors, Windows and Candles to help children explore these dimensions:

Mirrors – Self
Reflecting on who we are, what matters to us and how we are growing.

Doors – Others
Developing relationships, empathy, compassion and a sense of responsibility for others.

Windows – Beauty
Noticing and appreciating beauty, awe and wonder in the world around us.

Candles – Beyond
Exploring faith, meaning, purpose and the questions that take us beyond ourselves.

These opportunities are woven through worship, curriculum, relationships, creativity, nature, reflection and service.

 

Pupil Voice and Leadership

At Huby, we believe children should not simply learn about our values — they should have opportunities to shape and live them.

Children are encouraged to share their ideas, express their views, contribute to decisions and take responsibility for making our school and community a better place.

Our children take on leadership roles including Values Champions and Buddies. They help to plan and deliver worship, lead discussions about current issues, celebrate our values and support younger children.

We encourage children to think about justice and collective responsibility: What is fair? Who might need our help? What responsibility do we have towards others? What can we do together to make a difference?

Through leadership and pupil voice, children learn that their voice matters, their choices have an impact and everyone has a responsibility to contribute to the common good.

Our Values Champions help bring these values to life through worship, Picture News and celebrating examples of our values in action.

 

Charity, Justice and Community Action

We believe that letting our light shine means making a difference to others.

Children are encouraged to recognise injustice, think about fairness and consider how they can respond with compassion, generosity and courage. Through charitable fundraising, community projects, acts of kindness and opportunities to serve others, children learn that they have a responsibility to contribute to the wellbeing of others.

We work with our local community, church and charitable organisations, helping children understand that we are all connected and that we have responsibilities not only to ourselves, but to one another and to the wider world.

We encourage our children to ask:

What is fair?
Who needs our help?
What is our responsibility?
What can we do together?

In this way, charity and community action are not simply occasional events. They are opportunities for children to put our Christian values into practice and become active participants in creating a more just and compassionate world.
